The Gospel! ... God's secret plan.
There is no other message like the Gospel!
For those of us whose lives have been forever changed by it … words cannot describe what it means to us. The Gospel is a very specific message. It is the only message
that God has empowered and authorised to qualify people to receive forgiveness, redemption and eternal life.
It’s interesting that there are a few names given to the Gospel message through the new testament. They give a insight into God’s plan and heart in providing us a way to be brought back onto relationship with him. Some are well known, others not.
Let’s take a look at a few ...
1. ‘GOOD NEWS’ - 125 times throughout the NT.
“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. - (Mark 16 :15)
But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. - (Acts * : 4)
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes” - (Romans 1 : 16)
“For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News - and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power.” - (1 Cor 1 : 17)
2. ‘GOD’S SECRET PLAN’ - 4 times throughout the NT.
“When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan.” - (1 Cor 2 : 1)
“This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people.” - (Col 1 : 26)
3. ‘GOD’S MYSTERIOUS PLAN’ - 8 times through the NT
“Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan” - (Ephesians 6 : 9)
“I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.” - (Collosians 2 : 2)
4. ‘GOD’S ETERNAL PLAN’ -
“This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.” - (Ephesians 3 : 11)
5. ‘GOD’S MESSAGE’ - 4 times through the NT
“So God’s message continued to spread.” - (Acts 6 : 7)
“And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.” - (Philippians 1 : 14)
6. ‘THE WORD OF LIFE’
“Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.” (Philippians 2 : 16)
7. ‘THE WORD OF GOD’ - Over 30 times throughout the NT
“Meanwhile, the word of God continued to spread, and there were many new believers.” - (Acts 12 : 24)
“Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favourable or not.” - (2 Timothy 4 : 2)
8. 'THE WORD OF THE LORD’ - throughout the NT
“The following week almost the entire city turned out to hear them preach the word of the Lord.” - (Acts 13 : 44)
“But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.” - (1 Peter 1 : 25)
I remember reading of D L Moody attending a conference where one of the evening speakers was sharing a simple Gospel message. Moody writes that he said to himself, “Why doesn’t he give us something new”.
On the way back to his lodge after the meeting, he passed a group of older men gathered and some were weeping. As he grew closer he heard them discussing the Gospel message that had been shared that night and what the Gospel meant to them.
That night, Moody got on his knees by his bed and repented for his hard heart to that simple message that had changed his own life eternally.
We all can grow hard to the message of hope and life that Gospel is.
It is God’s message. God’s mysterious, secret message of life.
The Gospel truly is GOOD NEWS!
